Deaf Cat Edgar Loves Feeling His Dad’s Drumbeats

Edgar cannot hear his musician dad playing the drums, but that has never stopped him from joining practice sessions.

The deaf cat discovered another way to enjoy the music: sitting directly on the drums and feeling the vibrations through his body.

Edgar was born deaf and was adopted as a kitten by musician Jerry LaMark Jr. His lack of reaction to everyday noises quickly made his hearing difference apparent to his new family.

He Followed Dad Everywhere

Edgar and LaMark quickly became close companions. When his dad headed into the music room, the curious kitten regularly followed him instead of avoiding the instruments and activity.

The Drums Drew Him In

While LaMark practiced, Edgar began climbing onto the drum kit. What started as walking around the equipment developed into a regular habit of joining his dad during music sessions.

The Bass Drum Became Special

Edgar eventually settled on the bass drum while his dad played. Sitting directly on the instrument gives him access to vibrations that he can feel even though he cannot hear the music in the usual way.

Vibrations Seem to Relax Him

LaMark told Rover that the vibrations appear to calm Edgar. The cat can become so comfortable during practice that he reportedly falls asleep while sitting on the drums.

Edgar has also shown interest in cymbals, sometimes putting his cheek against them as they vibrate. His fascination with musical equipment dates back to kittenhood.

Noise Does Not Frighten Him

His deafness produces some unusual household moments too. LaMark recalled Edgar showing no reaction to a vacuum cleaner and even climbing on it, something many hearing cats would find far less appealing.

Music Became Their Routine

Edgar’s story is not really about a cat hearing drums. It is about a deaf cat finding his own way to experience something his favorite person enjoys, turning ordinary practice sessions into shared time together.
