Three tiny kittens in Cornwall were only three days old when their mother disappeared after being accidentally disturbed.
Rescuers initially waited because keeping newborns with their mother is usually best. When she failed to return for the remaining babies, intervention became necessary.
Five Kittens Were Initially Together
The feral mother had given birth to five kittens in a garden. A member of the public accidentally disturbed the family and immediately backed away after realizing what had happened.
Mom Carried One Away
The frightened mother escaped while carrying one of her newborn kittens. The person who discovered the family contacted Cats Protection rather than immediately collecting the babies herself.
Rescuers Recommended Waiting
Cats Protection advised watching the area from a distance. A frightened mother cat may avoid approaching while people remain nearby, so giving her space offered the best chance of reuniting the family.
She Returned for Another
The mother eventually came back and removed a second kitten. That return showed she had not simply deserted the litter and gave rescuers reason to continue waiting.
