Aubin’s Roadside Rescue Ends in Warm Cuddles

A young female cat later named Aubin was found beside a country road in freezing weather after rescuers from Here Kitty Kitty Rescue happened to pass by. She was extremely thin beneath her long coat, shivering badly, and weak enough that a passing snowplow added immediate danger to an already difficult situation. When rescuers approached, Aubin meowed and allowed Jennifer Gillispie to pick her up. Once inside the vehicle, she pressed close for warmth, licked Jennifer’s hands, and began showing the affectionate behavior that would define her recovery story.

The rescue brought Aubin back to its facility, warmed her, and offered food. She ate eagerly and soon began purring. Staff later reported that she had no microchip and that nobody came forward looking for her. Her condition made the first priorities simple: warmth, nutrition, safety, and time to recover from being dangerously thin and exposed to winter weather. As she settled in, volunteers described a sweet, social cat who enjoyed cuddling. The roadside encounter that began with a weak animal in the snow quickly became a much safer new chapter.

Jennifer Gillispie and two other Here Kitty Kitty Rescue volunteers were driving back toward the shelter when they noticed a young cat sitting near the edge of a country road. The weather was freezing, and she was barely moving.

Her location made the situation even more dangerous because traffic was still passing nearby. The rescuers stopped to investigate rather than continuing on. That decision brought them close enough to see how thin, frightened, and physically depleted the longhaired cat actually was beneath her coat.

As the rescuers approached, a large snowplow came down the road and frightened the cat. She tried to react, but the rescue later said she was too weak and exhausted to move effectively away from the danger.

The moment showed how little margin she had left outdoors. Cold weather was already draining her, and roadside traffic added another threat she was not strong enough to avoid reliably. Getting her off the road became the first step before anyone could address hunger, body condition, or longer-term recovery.

When Jennifer reached the cat, Aubin began meowing and allowed herself to be lifted rather than fleeing. For an outdoor cat in a frightening situation, that made it possible to get her into the vehicle quickly and away from the snow and traffic.

The rescue could not know everything that had happened before they found her, but her physical condition was obvious. Beneath the long fur, she was described as little more than skin and bones, showing how badly she needed food, warmth, and a protected place to recover.

Once inside the car, Aubin settled against Jennifer while still shivering from the cold. The rescue reported that she cuddled close, gave a small love nibble, and repeatedly licked Jennifer’s hands while being held for warmth.

Those simple behaviors became the sweetest part of the roadside rescue. Aubin had gone from sitting weakly beside traffic to resting in someone’s arms within minutes. She was still cold and underweight, but she was no longer facing the weather alone and could begin receiving the basic care she needed.

Warmth Came Before Everything Else

Back at Here Kitty Kitty Rescue, staff focused on getting Aubin warm and comfortable after her exposure to freezing conditions. A severely chilled animal needs protection from continued heat loss while caregivers monitor overall condition.

Her long coat had hidden just how thin she was, making the contrast especially striking once rescuers handled her closely. A warm indoor environment gave her a stable place to rest without spending more energy fighting the weather. That basic comfort became the foundation for feeding, recovery, and the social behavior she soon began showing around volunteers.

Aubin Ate With a Strong Appetite

After arriving at the rescue, Aubin was offered food and reportedly ate eagerly. For a cat described as extremely thin, having dependable meals available was an important part of rebuilding strength after an unknown period of inadequate nutrition outdoors.

Rescuers also observed her beginning to purr as she settled. Eating and resting indoors did not instantly restore lost body condition, but they gave her body the resources needed to start recovering. Regular food, warmth, and monitoring replaced the uncertainty of searching for enough calories beside a frozen country road.

No Microchip Led to a New Start

Staff checked Aubin for identification but reported that she was not microchipped. They also said nobody came forward to claim her after the rescue, leaving no confirmed household to which she could immediately return.

That meant her next stage would happen through the rescue rather than a reunion. She now had shelter, meals, and regular contact with volunteers while her condition improved. The absence of an identified owner changed the goal from finding her way back home to preparing for whatever suitable permanent placement could come next.

As Aubin recovered indoors, Here Kitty Kitty Rescue described her as having a sweet personality and enjoying attention from volunteers. The frightened, shivering cat beside the road gradually became a comfortable rescue resident with people available to feed, warm, and cuddle her.

Her story ended far differently from the scene rescuers first encountered. Instead of facing snowplows and freezing temperatures while dangerously thin, Aubin had a warm place to sleep, regular food, and familiar hands to greet with the same affectionate licking that began during her first ride to safety.
